A Note From the Chair

After SEVENTEEN(!) years as Chair, our esteemed pal Tom stood down at the AGM held in November 2024. So, Neil Gourlay, our new Chair has some big boots to fill. OK, long boots….

Neil is from a 3-generation model-flying dynasty, his dad and his son as well as him.

Over to you, Neil!

Firstly I would just like to thank you for visiting our website and showing interest.

So, sitting down with a small refreshment where do I begin?   Ah, I know.

This fantastic hobby of radio controlled aero modelling is one which I have grown up around all my life as my father has flown planes, allowing me as a wee lad some shots of his Super 60 3 channel trainer from an early age.  I continued to make visits to his local club sowing the seed for the love of this hobby.  It wasn’t until my late 30’s I took up the hobby seriously with a strong interest in learning to fly helicopters.  Starting with a small indoors coaxial Bell 47G style helicopter I learnt the basics moving swiftly on to a Thunder Tiger Mini Titan e325 collective pitch helicopter.  Spending many hours trying to just hover this helicopter in my back garden, which I know is not the best place to learn. I eventually learnt how to hover and found out about Kinross Radio Model Flying Club.

Joining the club was the best thing I could have done as the members who could fly helped me progress quicker, and the advice available is second to none!  The only bad thing about becoming a member is seeing all the larger (600 size) helicopters.  Bank account checked and purchase made.  The align 600 electric was bought. Quickly followed by a second-hand purchase of a Thunder Tiger Raptor 90se.

It would seem being a member encourages spending!

To this day I, (and possibly yourself) constantly dream about your next purchase.

Please don’t think I haven’t left the planes out as a few of these reside in my hanger and many memorable flights have been had.

Enough about myself. I hope that all existing pilots and potential new pilots have just as an exciting journey into the world of radio control flying as I have had and to this day still experience.

If you are local to Fife and the surrounding area please feel free to drop by (especially Saturdays or Sundays) to see what the hobby is all about.
