If you would like to try flying with us, come down to the field and say ‘Hi’ – we’re a friendly lot with plenty of club-members who would be pleased to help you get started. If you fancy a drone, a plane or a helicopter we can help.
First up we’d get you flying on a ‘buddy-box’ – you would have a controller (transmitter) in your hands but the Instructor with their ‘master’ transmitter has full control ready to take over in an instant if you get into trouble!
There are Club Trainer aircraft, or if you already have your own we can use that. Traditionally, people would begin with an engine-powered plane (glow-fuel probably) but these days electric power is just as good, and perhaps easier for the complete beginner. The Instructor will take off, and then hand over to you to get the feel of the ‘sticks’ and learn how to handle the model in the air. Flights are usually 5-10 minutes initially, and the Instructor will take over again for landing. After a few like this you’ll soon be doing your own take-offs, and in no time landings as well. It’s a well-known aviation saying: “Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory” but not on your own at first.
